To Be An American Essays - American Cuisine, Canadian Cuisine
To Be an American In all of Americas history we have stole bits and pieces of traditions from other cultures. Throughout this we made new traditions of our own. Whether it is gathering around the table once a year to have a full course feast, visiting a loved one that has past away, and/or lighting up fireworks to celebrate our independence. This makes tradition inseparable in today's American society. Even though we all have different beliefs. The one tradition that all Americans have in common is Thanksgiving. Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, yams, cranberry sauce, rolls, stuffing, apple pie, pumpkin pie, and anything else we stuff our face with. This is the time of the year that we come together as a family and forget the entire ruckus that happens during the year. It started way back when Christopher Columbus discovered this continent. It never would have happened if the pilgrims didn't meet the Indians. That shows you that it took two different cultures joining to celebrate to create an everlasting tradition. That is what American tradition is all about. Sharing with other cultures. To say tradition out weighs experience and vise versa is very ignorant. They coexist like peanut butter and jelly. Who makes a peanut butter sandwich without jelly? It is just that plain and simple. We have learned from many people and things. That is why we have holidays. Columbus day, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Martin Luther King's birthday have come through experience and we remember them to this day. They have shaped today's society and with their great minds and we have thanked them for that. In all actuality, Americans have developed vastly since the taking of this continent. We have soared to become one of the most powerful countries on earth. We did this with experience and our tradition of being very hard workers. We started from scratch and now look at us. We are the people that so many envy. All in all, Americans are people who combined their cultures and hard work to create tradition through their experience. That is what defines us as Americans.

Book review of Tuesdays with Morrie
Book review of Tuesdays with Morrie The novel Tuesdays with Morrie brought up many interesting feelings and new ideals on the bereavement of death and dying. This short book shows us many things. One of the most important is how to live life and love people. It also teaches us that each day should be lived to the fullest, regardless of the situation. This true story captures the compassion and wisdom of a man who only knew good in his heart. There are many different background questions approached in this book. Mitch Albom covers a lot of material on a few short and sweet pages. I think the main question that the book asks is how to live life. The author shows his life in hectic panic as he as been hurt everywhere except work, therefore he devotes all his time to his work until he sees an old college professor and mentor on Ted Kaupel, and he rethinks his adult philosophy.Mitch's Dum-AssMitch visits his college mentor, who has fallen ill with Lou Gehrig's disease, and it becomes a weekly visit and the last class the ret ired professor teaches before he died. When Mitch visits his teacher he was unprepared for what the dying man was about to teach him. Unknown to Mitch his "coach" was about to prime him on his greatest life lesson. The last fourteen weeks of Morrie's life Mitch met with him every Tuesday to learn and understand all the wisdoms of life that were in Morrie. The weekly routine consisted of lunch and lecture. Even when Morrie could no longer eat the food that Mitch brought, Mitch continued to bring it. Mitch Albom attended many classes taught by Morrie Schwartz during his years at Brandeis University, but he does not attempt to learn the meaning of life until he is in...

Case Analysis (Legal Methods) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Case Analysis (Legal Methods) - Essay Example The plaintiff sustained injuries as a result of the crash and attempted o claim compensation from the defendants on the grounds that they owed him a duty to ensure that the animals could not escape and get onto the highway where they might cause an accident. The area where the horses were kept did have a fence around them and it was not possible to reach a conclusion how the horses has managed to escape from the field. The fence had been flattened by the exiting horses and the judge came to the conclusion that the horses must have become frightened by someone or something and had bolted through the fence. The judge came to this decision despite lack of any concrete proof that this might be the case on the basis that the horses had never attempted to escape previously. Initially the plaintiff asserted a claim in negligence and under the Animals Act 1971. The negligence claim failed on the grounds that the animals were usually docile and the fence under such circumstances was adequate for its purpose. Judge Oââ¬â¢Malley felt that the defendants had maintained an adequate state of repair to the enclosure and that the fencing was not below the standard required of a ââ¬Ëreasonably careful and prudent ownerââ¬â¢. It was therefore necessary for the plaintiff to rely on the strict liability for the damage under the Animals Act. Given that the defendants had been found not guilty of negligence the plaintiff had to rely on proving the horses were dangerous. The difficulty with this was that the horses were generally docile and had never previously escaped nor injured anyone. As the Act does not list horses as a dangerous species then the reliance was on Act which states "(2) Where damage is caused by an animal which does not belong to a dangerous species, a keeper of the animal is liable for the damage, except as otherwise provided by this Act, if-(a) the damage is of a kind which the animal,
